The Monday and Tuesday of the week are the last 2 days celebrating one of the biggest Portuguese Festivities. The Festa de São João do Porto has celebrated Saint John the Baptist for over 6 centuries. It starts on Monday afternoon, where people will hit each other with garlic flowers and soft hammers, with evening activities including street food markets, barbequed sardines, drinking wine and releasing balloons. There is a midnight firework spectacle, before festival goers make their way from the Ribiera towards Foz for a spectacular sunrise.
